This new years eve as glasses cin cin, sante, cheers, and clink in the new year festivus, forget not that a leap year is upon us.
An extra day of the year, occuring every four years.
Why?
Apparently it’s to keep the calendar seasonal.
A Wikipedia author comments that, “Seasons and astronomical events do not repeat at an exact number of full days, so a calendar which had the same number of days in each year would over time drift with respect to the event it was supposed to track”.
I had no idea why we had a leap year.
However, Axl did and he described it as the “length of time - for the earth to orbit the sun; something astrological; something to do with the math, to add”.
Reefer Marley also knew and stated, ” Ancient calendars worked, and our 24 hour clock doesn’t….based on the sun, and didn’t try to make it non-sunny”.
Having smart, sciencey friends is always rather interesting.
